Welcome to Cranky Puppy Farm!

This blog belongs to two Gen X-er's smackdab in downtown Kansas City where we've been renovating and decorating two old Victorians built in the 1890's. Our life is filled with 3 demanding Pomeranians (1 of them cranky, of course), honking cars, noisy neighbors and the hustle and bustle of city life but we dream of the day when we can move to our 40-acre farm and hear nothing but the wind and the cows next door. Until then, we're chronicling our triumphs and mishaps here as we try to garden and preserve on 2 city lots, raise chickens, and learn all those things we should have learned from our grandparents. Welcome to our world - we hope you'll stay awhile!

40 Acres

The old 1959 Ford 8N makes its way out to the farm.

Is it bad that your tractor is bigger than your hubby's?  Check out my John Deere 850 complete with brushhog and canopy.  A really great Craigslist find!

The view as you're driving onto the farm that will some day be our home.  40 acres of quiet just a little over an hour away from Kansas City.  Notice the deerstand that the previous owner setup.  We have lots of deer on this land.

The view looking east.  24 of the 40 acres was in CRP until November of 2011.  It was nice to have the CRP to take care of 1/3 of the  monthly payment, but we wanted the flexibility of being to use the land as we want.  Under CRP, you can't graze livestock or plant anything (even trees!)  If the economy fails and we have to, we can now move out here full time and away from KC.

Our nearest neighbors house way off to the west.  On all 4 sides of our property are either pasture or planted farmland.  Obviously, these pics were taken in late fall so everything looks dead.

The barn.  A brand new 30' by 40' Cleary building with electricity and concrete floor.   A great place to store the tractors, 4 wheelers, J.'s dirt bike, and my classic Mercedes.  What?  Farmers don't drive Mercedes?  Well, this one does.

Back side of the pond.

We've got a tiny pond on the property that we'd like to expand when we get here permanently.  As far as I know, there's no fish in here.

Some day we'll build our dream house here and call it home.  But, until then, Cranky Puppy Farm's residence is a 50' x 100' city lot in downtown Kansas City.
